Grand Master Gary Largo leads the General Ablen’s School of Derobio Escrima. Gary Largo was the “Head Instructor” when the Pedoy School of Escrima opened in 1961. Grand Master Gary and The Batikan Eduardo Pedoy were best friends in school and were instrumental in convincing the Great Grand Master to open an Escrima School. Grand Master Gary is a lefty and thus is proficient with handling a bolo with either hand or with both hands.

 

Chief Master Leslie Largo is second in command at the General Ablen’s School of Derobio Escrima. Chief Master Leslie is the younger brother of Grand Master Gary. Chief Master Leslie is Vietnam veteran and also a black belt in Kempo. Both of the Largo parents were members and believers of Master Moncado and Grand Master Gary and Chief Master Leslie continue to support the church today.

 

Senior Master Carlton Kramer has trained directly under the Great Grand Master Brauilo Pedoy and The Bakitan. Carlton has traveled extensively with the Great Grand Master to all the outer islands in Hawaii, the mainland and to the Philippines. Master Carlton has the honor of being the first non Filipino Master of Derobio and was honored to learn the healing massage from the GGM. Master Carlton is also the Vice Chairmen Trustee of the Moncado Federation of America and has been a Trustee of the Moncado Church for the past ten years.

 

Senior Regional High Chief Instructor Knut Peacock has been training in Derobio since 1972. Knut studied directly under the GGM  and The Bakitan. Chief Instructor Knut is proficient in bolo fighting and has demonstrated throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Chief Instructor Knut has the Chief Instructors and Instructors reporting to him. Chief Knut is also a Trustee for the Moncado Federation of America for the past 8 years.

 

Senior High Chief Instructor Peter Schmall has also been training in Derobio since 1972 and has traveled extensively with the Great Grand Master throughout Hawaii, the mainland and the Philippines. Because of his tall stature, Chief Instructor Peter has mastered the Big Man Style of Derobio, is excellent in sparing, counters and the healing massage. Chief Peter also trained directly under the Great Grand Master Pedoy and under The Batikan. A Moncado follower, Chief Instructor Peter is now focusing on training his five daughters in Derobio.

 

Instructor Nai Hasegawa currently runs our  martial art school on Maui. Nai has an extensive background in martial arts that include: Shotokan, Shou Shu, Bok fu,  Kali, JKD Concepts,  Fire Horse Martial Arts and Shaolin Kenpo.  Nai is now teaching and training full time in the movements of Derobio Escrima. Nai has two daughters, Tiara & Latasha, that are also very proficient in one & two bolo movements of Derobio.

 

Tony Tanare’s has been training in Derobio for over a decade. In addition to his training in Derobio, Tony has extensive martial art background in Aikido, Judo and Close Quarter Battle techniques.

 

Maestro Zack Pilien has excelled in his training at the General Ablen’s School of Derobio Escrima. Zack is a lefty and is extremely proficient in one and two bolo fighting techniques. He has also practiced judo for much of his life and continues to do so actively. Zack is one the youngest Chief Maestro and has demonstrated a talent for the Derobio knife dances and counters.

 

Chief Maestra Kathryn Xian

Kathy has excelled in Derobio and is proficient in one bolo and two bolo fighting techniques. In addition Kathy has excelled in learning the 1,728 Derobio lock and the 1,728 get-a-ways counters. She also has an excellent background in other martial arts including Brazilian Ju Jitsu under Relson Gracie and Wing Chun Kung Fu under Robert Leung’s School of the Yip Man line.

Alan J. Sue is a Maestro in  for the General Ablen’s School of Derobio Escrima and has our authority to open a branch of our Escrima school in Japan. Maestro Alan is lefty and has the ability to fight effectively with all types of  weapons with either hand. He is also proficient  in one and two bolo fighting  and has excelled in all aspect of Derobio. Maestro Jerry Largo is the son of Master Leslie Largo and his uncle is Master Gary Largo. Jerry has been training in Derobio since 2008 and is proficient  in 1 and two bolo fighting. Jerry is also excellent in counters and has learned up to the six series in locks and their getaways.

 

Maestra Crissy has excelled in her study of Derobio and is proficient in one and two bolo fighting techniques. She has also done well in learning the 1,728 locks and get-a-away counters for Derobio and is now concentrating on learning the one and two bolo dances for Derobio.

 

Masestro Lionel’s Derobio movements are exceptional in both 1 and 2 bolo fighting techniques. Lionel also has a martial art background in Muay Thai and Kajukenbo.

 

Maestro Adam Pada has been training with our Escrima School since 2008 and was recently promoted  to Blue Shirt Maestro level. Maestro Adam is a lefty and is proficient in all aspects of Derobio and has especially excelled in two bolo fighting  techniques and learning the 144 counters and lock getaways.

 

Maestra Latasha Hasegawa is also an assistant instructor at the Maui Branch of the General Ablen’s School of Derobio Escrima. Latasha has been in martial arts all her life and is  proficient in one and two bolo movements and has excelled in all aspects of  Derobio.

 

Maestra Tiara Hasegawa is an assistant instructor at the Maui Branch of the General Ablen’s School of Derobio Escrima. Tiara ha been in martial arts all her life and is proficient in one and two bolo movements and has excelled in all aspects of Derobio.

 

Maestra Amberlee Schmall is devoted to Derobio and has great attendance in class. She is knowledgeable in all aspects for Derobio and has a great future at the General Ablen’s School of Derobio Escrima.

 

Maestra Chloe Schmall is devoted to Derobio and is knowledgeable in all aspects for Derobio, and has excelled in the 1,728 Derobio locks and get aways. Maestra Chloe and her four sisters have great future at the General Ablen’s School of Derobio Escrima.

 

Maestra Heidi Schmall is devoted to Derobio and is knowledgeable in all aspects for Derobio, and has excelled in teaching other young students our style of Derobio.

Maestra Cristen Kramer is the daughter of Master Carlton Kramer. Cristen has been training in Derobio since she was three years old and has passed her tests in 1 and two bolo fighting techniques and has excelled in  learning the counters and getaways of the 144. Cristen is also excellent in the 1 bolo Derobio knife dance.

 

Advance Escrimador Steve Sohns has been promoted to Black Shirt level and has passed his test in one and two bolo fighting techniques. Steve has excelled in sparring and in a recent Escrima tournament won first place in his weight division.

Maestro Greg Leong is a Derobio practitioner since 2005 and now trains at General Ablen’s School of Derobio Escrima (Main Branch). He also has entered several FMA tournaments around the island including live stick tournaments. In addition to his training in Derobio, he is a active practitioner with the Wing Chun Association of Hawaii (Kaneohe Branch). Greg is a lefty and is very proficient in one and two bolo fighting techniques. Greg is also a member of the Moncado Church.

 

Advanced Escrimador Tyler Baguio started in Derobio at an early age of just 6 years old and trained 5 years at the General Ablen School of Derobio Escrima. Tyler is proficient in one and two bolo fighting and is excellent in the Derobio Locks. Tyler has recently moved to Korea and we wish him and his parents good fortune and we look forward to the day he returns to our school.

 

Advanced Escrimador, Major Benjamin Frankenfield has been transfered outside of Hawaii by the military and will be missed by the instructors and students of our Derobio School. Ben was a very dedicated escrimador and has shown deep respect and loyalty to the art. Ben is a lefty and is proficient in one and two bolo fighting and knows both inside and outside styles of bolo defense.
